The Round-Up: Thanks a Lot, Universe in the News (updated)

One of the fun parts of being a newly published author is that lots of lovely, keen people in the kidlit world are eager to talk to you about your book! I’ve had the privilege of doing multiple interviews and guest blog posts about Thanks a Lot, Universe in recent weeks, and I’ll round up the links below.

  • For the blog From the Mixed-Up Files… of Middle Grade Authors, I wrote a guest post for WNDMG Wednesday on writing boys—especially BIPOC boys—as complex and well-rounded and, above all, kids.

  • Helen Kubiw of CanLit for LittleCanadians asked me some fascinating and wide-ranging questions about Thanks a Lot, Universe, from Brian’s relationship with his dad to music to social anxiety to open endings… and look for the bonus playlist included!

  • Blogger Karen B. McCoy interviewed me about tea (yay!), launching a book, and why Thanks a Lot Universe seems to be resonating with readers. I’m so happy that people are already discovering this book and loving it!

  • At A Novel Mind, I wrote about representation and permission—how seeing stories like ours reflected in what we read can give us permission to think differently.

  • For MG Book Village’s Fast Forward Friday feature, I interviewed myself (yes, you read that correctly!) about writing from multiple points of view.

  • Gavin Heatherington featured Thanks a Lot, Universe on his list of most anticipated middle grade books for April-June. Thanks Gavin!

  • In an interview with Double the Books Magazine, I talked about tackling heavy themes in middle grade.

  • Kidlit411 asked me about my path to publication, my favourite middle grade titles, and what advice I’d give to my younger self.

  • For the Pitch Wars blog’s Black History Month series in February, I wrote about the “underground” Black History in Canada.
